Outfit Formulas & The Spring Style Challenge ~ Week 1

Happy Wednesday! I'm so excited because this week I started the 2015 Spring Style Challenge hosted by the gorgeous Alison from Get Your Pretty On. You can read all about the how these Challenges work HERE.

I've gotten LOTS of style advice from these challenges-i get so much inspiration from all of the participants on our Facebook group (over 1,400 members at last check)! But better than that, the ladies I have "met" through this group have been nothing short of amazing! I have connected with so many wonderful women through this process--which was a benefit I was never expecting. This is my 4th Challenge but the first where I am teaming up with a few of these awesome ladies to showcase our outfits from the Challenge.

What all this means for you is ~ You get a basic spring outfit formula, my interpretation of it AND the interpretation of the outfits from the Style Me Bloggers (linked under the Spring Style Me Challenge graphic at the end). So basically LOTS and LOTS of fun, casual, down-to-earth spring outfit inspiration!!! Yay for you!!! If you want to read more about the Style Me Bloggers, we were all featured on Alison's blog, HERE.

By the way, it's not too late to join the Style Challenge if you want to participate first-hand! If you want to sign up, click HERE.

The outfits started on Monday, so here are the outfits for Monday through Wednesday. If you follow me on Instagram, you have seen these already :)

Outfit Formula 1: Monday ~ Bright Jacket/Cardigan + Tee + Patterned/Colored Pants + Long Necklace + Bright Flats

Ok, so I wasn't feeling the extra layer (jacket or cardi) so I just skipped it. I was happy with this outfit and it was very practical for my day which consisted of staying home and taking care of a sick kiddo and going to the doctor :) I got complimented on my shoes all day long!

Spring Outfit Formulas for Moms
Gray Tee: Kohl's (similar)
Camo Pants: Loft (similar)
Coral Flats: Payless (exact)
Ladder Necklace: Jane.com (similar, similar)

Outfit  Formula 2: Tuesday ~ Striped Dress + Bright Cardi + Necklace + Wedges

I pretty much stuck to the script on this one except I substituted neutral sandals for wedges. My wedges are super tall and my dress is short so it was bordering on hooker'ish. #justsayin. The long necklace from Day 1 would have also been good, but I liked the pop of color with the red. Can you spot my mini photbomber?? She purposely bombs my photos to make me laugh!!!!

Spring Outfit Formulas for Moms
Striped Dress: Old Navy (exact)
Cardi: Old Navy (exact, in Mini Mint)
Red Flower Necklace: Target (exact)
Sandals: Similar, Similar

Another version of this is swapping out the cardi for a vest....it gives a completely different look, doesn't it??! This might be my weekend go-to look this spring.

Striped Dress: Old Navy (exact)
Cargo Vest: Similar, Similar
Sandals: Similar, Similar
Tassel Necklace: similar

 Outfit  Formula 3: Wednesday ~ Bright Cardi + Black Tank/Tee + White Jeans + Scarf  + Wedges

It's supposed to be 80 here today (Wednesday), so I skipped the cardi, but it's an easy enough layer to add. I love the scarf/tank look for spring!!

Spring Outfit Formulas for Moms
White Jeans: Loft (exact)
Black Tank: similar
Floral Scarf: Target (exact)
Wedge Sandals: Target (similar)
Earrings: Stella & Dot (exact)

All of these are simple outfit formulas that I would bet you could put together with some items from your closet. It's great because you can put your own spin on it....don't have wedges? Substitute neutral sandals like I did. No striped dress? Maybe you have a striped skirt? No bright jacket? Who cares! Use a cardigan or skip that layer! Have fun with each of these "formulas" and make them your own.

Next Wednesday, I'll be recapping the even more outfits and giving you more easy outfit formulas to play with, so be sure to check back!! Have a great day, pretty girls!

  3. I love every single one of your outfits! Your springy scarf is sooo pretty and such a fun touch to the outfit. I also like how you showed the alternate option of the utility vest with your striped dress. I think I favor that one slightly over the cardigan (since I like things a little bit tough!) Great post, Casey!

    1. Keri, believe it or not, it's a TJ Maxx/Marshalls find! I looked for a vest for MONTHS and this one finally popped up last fall. However, I saw them again two weeks ago! The brand is Max Studio and they are $40. I'm wearing a small. If you have one nearby, check it out..I seriously wear it way too much :) XO

  14. I hope some of your great ability to interpret the challenge looks rubs off on me. I have trouble thinking beyond the OOTD pieces. Your gray top is so cute. Love the sleeves and the boat neck. I read slouchy gray tee and can't think beyond the obvious.

  15. Sounds like a great challenge. I don't normally do so well with extended challenges because I am not a great planner. I love all of your outfits!

Thank you for joining TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you next week. Have a great weekend!
